2014 Art Project

The Voluntary Resource Centre (VRC) is pleased to announce a call for submissions for our 2014 Celebrations project entitled: For the Love of Art, Community, & PEI.

Project Details:

The work will be on the exterior of the building at 81 Prince Street and should create a welcoming and thought provoking façade for the VRC. We are seeking a creative approach which incorporates the celebration of themes of Active Community, Civic Engagement, Human Rights, and Inclusion. The final concept and format will be based on a consultation process with members of the Voluntary Resource Council. The artist will be provided with a work space at the Murphy’s Community Centre and will work with teens who participate in their programs to complete the project. Because the artist will be working directly with youth, the successful candidate will be required to submit a recent criminal record check, and work within the policies of the Murphy’s Centre.

Due to the involvement of Murphy's Centre Youth Programs, work with youth will take place through the summer during the Murphy’s Centre hours of operation, weekdays between 10:00am and 6:00pm. The final work will be unveiled on September 13, 2014.

About the VRC:
The Voluntary Resource Council is a non-profit organization founded to strengthen communication and cooperation amongst the voluntary sector on P.E.I, and to provide services and information. The Council owns and operates the Voluntary Resource Centre. The Centre is a hub of activity where members can access space, resources, and affordable services.

Submission Guidelines:

We ask that each applicant submit the following:
-Artist Curriculum Vitae
-A project description of 250 words, and up to two accompanying concept sketches. Materials must be weather resistant as the final piece will be mounted on the exterior of the building, also see space limitations below. For examples of suitable exterior materials please consult:

- A proposed budget for materials

-Up to 6 examples of previous works which demonstrate ability and merit
*When submitting digital media files must be in .JPG format and no larger than 1 MB per file.

The budget for the artist’s fee and materials is $4000 - $5000.

The work must fit within the dimensions of the building and must not interfere with the parking spaces in front of it. We encourage creative uses of the available space. The building is approximately 30 ft long divided by windows into 13, 6, and 5 foot sections. These measurements will need to be confirmed.
